Abstract

The English language has undergone a long and complex process of development shaped by historical, social, and cultural factors. From its origins as a Germanic language spoken by early settlers in Britain to its current status as a global lingua franca, English has continuously evolved in terms of phonology, morphology, syntax, and vocabulary. This article explores the major stages in the evolution of the English language Old English, Middle English, Early Modern English, and Modern English highlighting the key linguistic changes and external influences that contributed to its development. Special attention is given to language contact, historical events, and standardization processes that transformed English into one of the most influential languages in the world.
